The kids’ table was the place to be when I was growing up. It was loud and boisterous and the parents had no idea just how much fun we were having. We thought we were sooo cool and independent when, in reality, our parents were soaking in the “adult time.” There were always enough of us to keep each other occupied, but when we finished dinner and the parents were still at their table, just hanging out and eating as slowly as possible (in the mind of a 7-year-old). This post is dedicated to DIY turkey crafts for kids. They’re a great way to get your kids involved in prepping and decorating beforehand, or to keep them occupied while you enjoy a your time at the grown-up table.
Thanksgiving Apple Turkeys – These are cute decorations for the table, and allow your kids to get creative with their turkey “feathers”
Turkey Boxes – Fill these with Crayons and set them at the table with these free Thanksgiving printable coloring pages. Kids love the interactive place mats! MAke sure they’re colored in before they get dessert 😉
Sugar & Spice Hand Prints – These can be made with the basics in your house. Step it up with some fabric and make a banner!
Unfinished Turkey Napkin Rings – Buy these adorable napkin rings here and let your kids paint a personality on each one. They have a rustic vibe, and family members will love seeing which turkey they get at their seat 🙂
Turkey Treat Box w/ Pumpkin Spice Snack – I used to make Chex Mix with my mom for every holiday, and it always made me feel so special – like I was making a HUGE part of our Thanksgiving/Christmas/Easter meal. Well, I obviously wasn’t, but at least I always had that feeling. This allows your kids to create their own little turkey box and help in the kitchen.
Construction Paper Turkeys – These are cute and easy! I made them as a kid, and am glad the tradition continues 🙂 You only need a few sheets of construction paper, and if you can’t find find the googly eyes (or forgot to pick them up at the store, as I have), just draw them on.
Family Hand Print Turkey – I love this because if you do it every year, it will document how quickly everyone in the family is growing. Hands are such great indicators of life and growth – it’s a great family tradition to start!
DIY Paper Turkey Kit – from World Market, this adorable Nerdy Paper Turkey Kit is for those of us who don’t have the time (or the artistic aptitude) to gather supplies and put on finishing touches. I love the alternative quirkiness, plus it’s quick, easy, and fun for everyone!
