The other day I was at Michaels (as usual) and I saw the cutest fall placemat. Of course, my first thought was, how can I make this myself? And the next thing I knew, I was scouring the aisles for supplies to make my own DIY Fall Leaf Centerpiece. Turns out the supplies were actually less expensive than the finished product (that never happens!), and it only took about 15 minutes, total, to make!
Easy DIY Fall Leaf Centerpiece
These pretty fall centerpieces can be used as a centerpiece (that was my plan, anyway!), but you could also make several and use them as placemats. This particular centerpiece is circular, but I started with a rectangle of felt. It was the perfect placemat size. I plan on making more for placemats!
I think this would look adorable next to this cute printable piece of fall-inspired art.
Fall Leaf Centerpiece Supplies
This craft is so easy. All you need is a piece of felt, some scissors, some fake leaves, and a glue gun or some craft glue. You’ll also need something round to trace if you’re making a circular centerpiece. I used a plate.
I used a 12″x18″ piece of neutral felt that I picked up at Michaels for less than $.50. You can order a large pack here, although you’ll want to make sure the colors are appropriate for your craft. I cut the felt down to the size I wanted.
I used fake leaves that I picked up in the artificial plants section of Michaels. They were 50% off, and I used three small packs of them. I bought two plain white packs and one with glitter and I love the contrast. You can use any fake leaves that suit your style – you can pick from a bunch of them here!
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find these same leaves online (because of course not). If I had known they’d be hard to find, I’d probably have just used colorful fall leaves instead so it would be easier to duplicate. So, if you are unable to find the white leaves at Michaels or Hobby Lobby…I’m so sorry! 🙁
While I used my glue gun, you could easily use any craft glue for this project.
How to Make this Cute Fall Centerpiece
Once you’ve got your supplies ready, the fun can begin! Starting on the outer rim of your felt, start gluing down your leaves. I overlapped each leaf a little bit for this layered effect.
Once you have completed the first ring, start the second one, again overlapping the leaves a bit as you go. I just love the texture made by the overlapping leaves!
Keep going until you’ve reached the center. I use a final leaf right in the middle.
This centerpiece is currently on my dining room table and holds a candle surrounded by cute little pumpkins! If you want to make your own pumpkins, here’s a tutorial for the Dipped Glitter Pumpkins you see here.
This will also be pretty for my Thanksgiving table. It’s going to look so cute with some sweet potato casserole in a favorite dish on top!
